Opportunities in the Indian Railway Sector

This report addresses opportunities to supply railway equipment and services to Indian Railways (IR.) The IR network is the second largest in the world, carrying over 4 billion passengers and transports 682.38 million tones of cargo each year. The Government of India (GOI) owns the entire railway network. The GOI is currently implementing an ambitious plan for the holistic modernization of the IR which includes investment of US$68 billion on the introduction of high technology for track modernization, signaling, telecommunication, mechanical, electrical works and disaster management systems. The ensuing projects from this modernization plan provide substantive multi-million dollar export opportunities for several U.S. firms interested in the Indian Railway sector.
